Chapter 20-Tobacco

The learner will be intoduced to the dangers of tobacco use. The learner will also be able to recognize the consequences of using addictive substances. Finally, the learner will be able to describe the different types of tobacco, as well as the different types of smoke.

The Foot and Ankle

The learner will be introduced to the anatomical make up of the foot and ankle. Also, the many types of acute and chronic injuries that can occur will discussed in detail. Finally, the mechanisms of injury, the evaluation process, and the treatment protocals for these injuries will be explained.

Personal Communications/Electronic Devices

Please refer to page 27 of the Student Handbook to understand the policy concerning CELL PHONES. These devices are not required or approved for use at any time during Health/Sports Medicine instruction unless approved by the classroom instructor. Once instruction has begun all cell phone use is prohibited unless approved by the classroom instructor. 

Cell Phone Infraction policy:

1st Infraction: Warning by Classroom Instructor
2nd Infraction: E-Mail to parent ( Warning)
3rd Infraction: Discipline Referral 

Health Chapter 2- Taking Charge Of Your Life

The learner will be introduced to the decision making model as well as the process of goal setting. The learner will be able to describe specific health skills, communication skills, refusal skills, and conflict resolution skills, that one needs to make positive choices in their lives. Finally, the learner will be able to understand the importance of becoming a health-literate consumer.

Medical Terminology

The learner will be introduced to the use of medical terminology to evaluate and describe the many different types of sports related injuries. This will include anatomical stuctures, signs/symptoms, ranges of motion, injury types, and locations of structures within the human body.
